As a major minuses was noted:
- Childish design that does not fit with ART Community.
- Too large Symbols and a variable horizontal position.
- Symbols should be at the left side of Username.
- The majority of deviantART members wish to be returned to the old symbols.
In the given situation is necessary for both sides to be happy.. So I created this design for NEW deviantART Symbols in 2 different Versions.. The basic idea is to keep the old symbols but to satisfy the desire of deviantART Staff Team for new vision on portal.. In the examples that are given I used size that can easily be corrected ..
Now is the time to say what you like and what you do not like in this design.
Both versions of the design are uploaded to my gallery And in section: deviantART Related > deviantART Suggestions > Visual Suggestions..
Your opinion is important to me and I want to hear opinions, constructive criticism and suggestions..

These really aren't necessary. dA changed them to stars and such so they would be easy to understand, and I don't see why nobody seems to like those. They're really a lot better.
They are light, simple, easy to see, and look profesional.
Even if they kept the stars and stuff they wold look better if they fit them into these circles and followed this style.
Someone should come up with a software way to make these the default icons.
Admittedly they haven't done the best job of things, and personally I consider most of their symbols pointless to even have, but hopefully they'll improve the aesthetics later, e.g. by making them smaller and/or fainter.
While they are a nice design, I will have to confess to be indifferent on this issue.
It is nice to get an indication of the roles some other people play within DA, having an extra symbol after the membership name has never been a selling point on my using the DA site. I would rather see the efforts being focused on improving how the site functions vs minor cosmetic tweaks.
And I hope to introduce real changes.. not just cosmetic effects.. but now apparently the portal has turned to contemporary social networks.. and must be .. elegant.. :/
In the case I will speak in defense of Heidi.. She is very good and responsible Administrator.. We must not forget that the team of this site is very large and decisions are taken together.. Heidi is the messenger who told us the news and receive all the negatives when the decision was wrong.. Her work is not easy.. I hope administrators to listen to members and make a revision of the update..
PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
I was hoping for something like this too.
I suggested it on the announcement yesterday as well.
There really needs to be something done about these new symbols though with the great amount of dismay displayed by the community. I certainly hope this idea gets further pushed.
Oh, I hadn't seen the second half of the deviation until later. So sorry...
I really do like the symbols for the different deviant types (!, &, etc.), which is what I had suggested -- to add more similar symbols to suit the new need. However, I still feel the circular forms are too distracting when used in texts and the like. This though is far less distracting than the giant STARs.
This is a very good middle ground, yet I'd still prefer just the symbols without the circle.
Thank you and for your suggestions and opinion.. Yes the size is large in top/message centre bar.. but if in that particular zone I decrease the Symbols size they looks horrible.. the reason is the same color as username.. Therefore, the size is such as to recognize the symbol.. for a userpage header symbol and his vertical placement - can easily be changed.. It is the job for DeviantART coding Team .. I do not know the exact parameters of the arrangement of symbols currently.. The location of an object is not due to the size of image , he is due to the CSS styles.. About Regular, Premium, and Beta member text symbols - You a right.. They may need to be bolder .. some of others ( staff, senior and volunteer) are bolder.. Thank you for a great constructive comment..
And I hope soon to change these childish characters.. Hearts ! Stars ! I am not 13 yo .. lol !!
-I don't really see how the designs are childish it is common to place stars/hearts/badges beside usernames who have donated or supported websites. I honestly think they kept them as streamline and professional looking as possible. (be happy you don't have a bright yellow star) I also think a star fits more then the text symbol with the art community.
-They could be smaller I'll agree to this
-I could understand the text symbols being on the left but something like what they have now looks better after the name. I'd rather be Gokai-chibi the beta user, not the beta user Gokai-chibi.
-This is highly debatable. I've meant just as many do not care or like the new symbols oppose to who don't. Just because one side seems more vocal doesn't mean they outnumber the other side. The side against something will ALWAYS be more vocal.
I dunno in my opinion if they went back to the old symbols, Id want them to make exactly like they were before. The ones you have made are even more displeasing to the eye and distracting then the stars.
- new Symbols for me personally are really childish .. or even worse .. like a status as a dating site .. There is no way a serious artist to feel really comfortable when he send page on employer and behind his name stands star .. even worse - heart .. It remains to be added and a second symbol of marital status .. Hearted - in an intimate relationship .. empty heart - alone .. Broken Heart - unrequited love ..
- It is not correct title is after the name .. Queen Catherine, Sir Elton John, Prince Charles .. In many nations the placement of the title after the name speaks of low intelligence..
- In polls people do not discuss so much .. most just vote .. and there's negative opinion also prevails..
And I prefer old symbols and want them back .. My suggestion is just a idea if they want to make something between old and new Symbols..
I don't know if DA's done an official poll, but most the user polls I've seen have been pretty even matched.
