NEW Username Symbols Suggestion Version 1.0. by DreamON-Mpak NEW Username Symbols Suggestion Version 1.0. by DreamON-Mpak
The New Username Symbols [ announced in "New Username Symbols" by $Heidi ] led to much discussion about whether such a change is needed and whether this new design is suitable for a Art Community like deviantART .. Majority of deviantART members have negative opinions about the new Symbols..
As a major minuses was noted:
- Childish design that does not fit with ART Community.
- Too large Symbols and a variable horizontal position.
- Symbols should be at the left side of Username.
- The majority of deviantART members wish to be returned to the old symbols.

In the given situation is necessary for both sides to be happy.. So I created this design for NEW deviantART Symbols in 2 different Versions.. The basic idea is to keep the old symbols but to satisfy the desire of deviantART Staff Team for new vision on portal.. In the examples that are given I used size that can easily be corrected ..

Now is the time to say what you like and what you do not like in this design.

Both versions of the design are uploaded to my gallery And in section: deviantART Related > deviantART Suggestions > Visual Suggestions..

Your opinion is important to me and I want to hear opinions, constructive criticism and suggestions..

This is a great idea. I've heard some complaints about the absence of the previous symbols. Even newcomers will have no problem identifying the symbols at all. They just need to mouse-over them. The orientation of the symbols has also confused some people, making it a good idea to place them on left of the usernames. Are they better than the current symbols, or lack thereof? I wish I had a symbol sometimes. To be honest, the stars, flames, medal and heart look interesting, but your idea works too. Let's hope your idea gets heard of, and maybe gets approval.
What do you think?

I think these symbols are very good, they can help you identify users.

These really aren't necessary. dA changed them to stars and such so they would be easy to understand, and I don't see why nobody seems to like those. They're really a lot better.

This strikes me as a happy medium between the old "confusing" symbols and the current condescendingly simple symbols. Definitely an improvement over the official update.

I think the ! does not always mean violation of rules, this symbol also appears when a deviant closes their account by themselves

Correct

These are simply amazing.
They are light, simple, easy to see, and look profesional.
Even if they kept the stars and stuff they wold look better if they fit them into these circles and followed this style.
Someone should come up with a software way to make these the default icons.

Aren't you missing a key point though? Having symbols which suggest meanings (or make it easier to remember meanings) is I think a big part of the reason for dA's change, and it's entirely sensible. Your symbols don't really suggest meanings except possibly the exclamation mark, so I don't think the dA team would be interested - and I'd agree with them on that. Your symbols could also be criticized as being overly complex, because each one comprises two shapes (an inner character plus a disc or circle) rather than just one. But really that's academic, in view of the first point.

Admittedly they haven't done the best job of things, and personally I consider most of their symbols pointless to even have, but hopefully they'll improve the aesthetics later, e.g. by making them smaller and/or fainter.

I agree, all but the aesthetics statement which I have to say; I think they look good and are a nice size, not too small to not show detail but not too large to be a bother.
